Overhangs and complex geometries sometimes need support. The appropriate support material is included in manufacturing planning and removed afterwards.
How support material differs from the part material
Support material holds sections in position during printing. It is not selected as the intended material of the finished part. We assess the appropriate combination of main material, geometry and support strategy.
Soluble or mechanically removable
PVA and BVOH are water-soluble support materials for suitable material pairings. In appropriate processes, HIPS can be removed mechanically or through a suitable dissolution process. Removal must be possible without affecting the part itself.
Internal spaces must remain accessible
Even soluble supports do not make every fully enclosed cavity manufacturable. Liquid and dissolved material must be able to enter and leave. We assess these details using your file.
